Gault&Millau 2019

The 2019 edition of Gault&Millau rumbled into the market somewhat abruptly this year. Some of the books reached their recipients days before the official publication. A small PR disaster… Although its importance for the German region has declined significantly in recent years, this may change again in the future with a new team and a new focus. “Pointy and ambitious, our gourmet experts test the cuisine, atmosphere and character of the restaurants and award the coveted Gault&Millau points,” Gault&Millau explains accordingly in the press release. In addition, Gault&Millau also intends to search more intensively in the future for the latest culinary trends and young talent.

As always, the most important news first: Chef of the Year in 2019 will be a duo consisting of Johannes King and Jan-Philipp Berner from Sylter Söl’ring Hof. That’s the very best news for Germany’s northernmost two-star and, above all, proof of how calmly and orderly the handover of the culinary baton can go. Congratulations!!

The history of Gault&Millau

Gault&Millau is a restaurant guide named after its editors, French journalists Henri Gault and Christian Millau, and is the most influential along with the Guide Michelin. It was first launched in France in 1969. It awards the Gault&Millau points that result in the famous toque rating of restaurants. In addition to the rating, unlike the Michelin Guide, it also provides a detailed description of the restaurants. Gault&Millau is currently available in twelve countries, including France, the Netherlands, Austria, Morocco, Japan and Australia. Another ten countries will follow in no time, such as the UK, Italy, Spain and South Africa.

Gault&Millau Germany 2019

The Gault&Millau Restaurant Guide is being published for the 36th time this year and rates around 800 restaurants.
