Here it is, the new list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, the best restaurants of 2019. In first place was chosen the restaurant Mirazur in Menton. Followed by Noma 2.0, which once again managed to enter the ranking.
Because – and this is new – all restaurants that have already won will be transferred to a Hall of Fame in the future and can no longer win in subsequent years. This is to avoid the regular dominance of a few restaurants in the future. In recent years, Eleven Madison Park, Osteria Francescana and El Cellar de Can Roca have regularly alternated in the top spots.
Only time will tell if this step really makes sense and if a top 50, in which more and more of the best restaurants are missing, is really still a top list.
For the first time, the list in its expanded form exceptionally includes 120 restaurants. This is due to the 120th anniversary of the sponsor San Pellegrino.
Noteworthy from a German perspective: Nobelhart & Schmutzig’s big jump of 31 places to number 57 and Ernst’s move into 118th place. Restaurant Tim Raue continues to mark the German top, but falls slightly to 40th place.
Nothing has changed in the voting procedure, but the organizer announced that half of the 1,040 jurors worldwide are female. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled using the votes of an influential group of more than 1,000 experts from the international restaurant industry. 40 members and one chairman each from a total of 26 regions worldwide make up “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy.” Each member may cast ten votes. Of these ten votes, at least four must be awarded to restaurants located outside the region of the member in question.
