The American restaurant review portal Opinionated About Dining (OAD), for which I have been an occasional judge , has published the results of its survey of the one hundred+ best restaurants in Europe.
One of the most important references for restaurant rankings worldwide, OAD selects L’Arpège in Paris as the top restaurant for the second year in a row. Already in 2016, the busy French chef Alain Passards convinced with his visionary cuisine, which primarily celebrates product-oriented vegetable creations.
“The reason for the renewed success is above all the kitchen style, which is both modern and timeless. No other chef has mastered as perfectly as Alain Passard how to take the best food to a higher level through the appropriate method of preparation,” reads the justification for the ranking.
As the best restaurant in the German-speaking world, Andreas Caminada’s Schloss Schauenstein in the Swiss canton of Graubünden secured second place in the list of best restaurants. The highest ranked restaurant from a German perspective is the Vendôme in Bergisch-Gladbach in 16th place, Christian Bau lands in 17th place with the Schloss Berg, the Gästehaus Klaus Erfort in 22nd place, La Vie in 23rd, Tim Rauein 32nd, Sven Elverfeld with Aqua in 33rd and Kevin Fehling in 68th, Christian Jürgens Überfahrt at 98, the Lorenz Adlon with Hendrik Otto at 99, Peter Maria Schnurr with the Falco at 117, the Facil at 144, horvath at 151, Reinstoff at 158 and the Atelier of Jan Hartwig at 177.

Opinionated About Dining
OAD was started in 2003 by New York native Steve Plotnicki. The initial blog evolved into a forum for food enthusiasts to share their culinary experiences, resulting in a worldwide restaurant review survey that reflects the opinions of more than 5,000 registered restaurant guests and food bloggers. OAD is the only poll of its kind that also incorporates the personal experience of each voter through a proprietary algorithm. Based on these factors and the evaluation of around 150,000 submitted restaurant ratings, various world- and country-wide best lists are created.
