The concept of the Kitchenguerillas is simple and at least as ingenious: They temporarily hijack a location, occupy the kitchen and conjure up a mostly great menu there with their mobile kitchen team. On a small, medium or sometimes on a very large scale. Last week, however, the signs were exceptionally the opposite. Hendrik Thoma, Hamburg-based master sommelier and famously busy Youtuber, took over directing for one evening at Atelier 45, the Guerrillas’ new home base. By the way, a great, very cozy location with two wonderful, massive wooden tables and large, open kitchen.
It was a fine evening with seven interesting wines (great, the Grüner Veltliner “Frauengärten” and the Riesling “Grainhübel” from the wooden barrel) and corresponding dishes. The (wine) journey ranged from the Palatinate to Austria and from Portugal to South Africa. Hendrik Thoma led with a twinkle in his eye but also quite competently through the repertoire he had selected. The Kitchenguerillas provided culinary variety and served a fantastic ragout of Duroc pork as the main course, the recipe for which can fortunately be read here.
