David Thompson is one of the leading experts in Asian cuisine, his restaurant Nahm in Bangkok is one of the best in Asia and he is one of the few Michelin-starred Thai chefs.
Apart from that – and much more exciting – he is the author of my absolute favorite work about all the basics and backgrounds of Thai cuisine: Thai Food. A few days ago I added another work from his pen to my collection: Thai Street Food.
While Thai Food provides a great deal of background information and explains the tradition and historical development of individual dishes and regions in detail, Thai Street Food – unsurprisingly – focuses on the many fast products from the cookshops and street restaurants in Thailand’s metropolises. The recipes, on the other hand, are more detailed than in Thompson’s other books and invite you to cook them directly. The level of difficulty is not too high, for very special ingredients the author often offers more easily available alternatives.
Actually almost indispensable in every (cooking) bookshelf, especially of course with basic interest in Thai cuisine. But, we could not have that….
So far, however, the title published by Octopus is only available in English.
