Hotel Strand am Königshafen, Sylt

The annoying thing about the short route between Hamburg and Sylt is that you drive it far too rarely. I at least. Yet it is always beautiful on the island, almost no matter whether in spring, in sunshine or even in winter, which last weekend but still felt almost like autumn. Even for one night, the trip is worth it, especially if you are so positively surprised by the hotel, as we were by the Hotel Strand am Königshafen in List.

We had read one or the other report in advance, but apparently only superficially, because when entering the modern new building, which lives up to its name and is placed directly on Lister Strand, an unexpected déjà vu set in. Colors, decorative elements, fabrics, lamps – the whole style seemed surprisingly familiar to us. Only later did we learn the exact connections: Ines Müller, the interior designer and owner of the Alte Strandvogtei, which we love (and last occupied for 10 days in the summer of 2011), is also responsible for the styling at the Strand. Together with hotel manager Stephanie Gebhardt, this has resulted in a truly dreamlike hideaway with a lot of love for elaborate details and unusual room concepts.

Two comfortable armchairs in front of the floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows in our room with sea view invite you to linger and relax, while the pool, sauna and steam bath in the basement offer further havens of peace and relaxation. The breakfast hours are pleasantly generous; the opulent and extremely tasty buffet stays open until 11:30. Directly in front of the house you can walk on the beach or have a delicious snack at Gosch. Also within walking distance is the A-Rosa resort with its three restaurants (which we would advise against visiting – but that’s another story).

We will certainly visit the beach at the King’s Harbour again. Together with the Alte Strandvogtei and the Fährhaus in Munkmarsch, it will be one of our favorites for a trip to the island in the future.
