In May 2022, Casa Cook opened its doors on Samos, as the group’s fourth hotel in total. With Casa Cook Mykonos follows this summer directly the number 5. And actually it was rather this hotel, but especially this island, which we would have liked to visit again. However, Mykonos didn’t work out this time and so we ended up at Casa Cook on Samos a few days after the opening. And that turned out to be a wonderful coincidence in retrospect. Because Samos is a pretty great island. Somewhat more pristine, expansive and also more rugged than some other Greek destinations. From a culinary point of view, you can feel the immediate proximity to Turkey through stronger oriental spices and products.
The concept of Casa Cook resorts worldwide follows a similar principle: the rooms and apartments are lined up around large pools for shared use, in the style of a village square. Each of the rooms on the first floor has a terrace with direct access to the water. The type and design of the terraces varies, some have more sun, others more shade – depending on the desire (or availability).
Further freely accessible sunbathing areas serve guests from the rooms on the second floors as pool access or as an alternative option in the sun, should it be too shady on their own terrace.
Casa Cook Samos is also characterized by a very generous beach location, with plenty of space for comfortable wooden loungers, as well as a bar and two small restaurants.
At lunchtime in particular, we’ve been coming here daily for a bottle of wine and a few snacks from the bar menu, and both the selection and the pricing make this quite attractive.
Due to the proximity to the port town of Pythagorio, we tended to head for one of the small tavernas in the evening and enjoyed grilled fish and local wines. Whereas the restaurant at Casa Cook also offers some exciting options. One evening we met there with the chef and had the opportunity to try many dishes from the menu. To be fair, it has to be said that in the opening weeks and under the aspect of the global staffing problems in the catering industry, one cannot yet expect any very big leaps here. Still, the dishes were solid, but their selection was not as local as one would like. Basically, though, I’m confident that it will all evolve and catch up to the other houses on a comparable level.
